“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/The Disciples Grief Will TurnTo Joy

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

Just listening to Juanita Bynum’s “What A Wonder You Are”, Jesus what a wonder you are.  And reading Psalm 18:1) I will love Thee, O Lord, my strength.  Deuteronomy 12:4; 1Samuel 2:2; Psalm 91:2.

“The Disciples Grief Will Turn To Joy”, John 16:17) Then said some of His disciples among themselves, What is this that He saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see Me:  and, Because I go to the Father?  18) They said therefore, What is this that He saith, A little while?  we cannot tell what He saith.  19) Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask Him and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said; A little while, and ye shall not see Me:  and again, a little while, and ye shall see Me?  20) Verily, verily, (Truly, truly) I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.  21) A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come:  but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.  22) And ye now therefore have sorrow:  but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.  Acts 2:46; 1Peter 1:8.  23) And in that day ye shall ask Me nothing.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it you.  24) Hitherto have ye asked nothing in My Name:  ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.  25) These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs:  but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.  26) At that day ye shall ask in My name:  and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:  27) For the Father Himself loveth you, because ye have loved Me, and have believed that I came out from God.  Jude 20:21.  28) I came forth from the Father, and Am come into the world:  again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.  John 13:3.  29) His disciples said unto Him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.  30) Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee:  by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.  31) Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?  32) Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered every man to his own (house), and shall leave Me alone: and yet I Am not alone, because The Father is with Me.  33) These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace.  In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer:  I have overcome the world.

Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary –  v17-22 The sorrows of the Disciples would soon be turned into joy; as those of a mother at the sight of her infant.  The Holy Spirit would be their Comforter, and neither men nor devils, neither sufferings in life nor in death, would ever deprive them of their joy.  Sorrow is coming on the ungodly, which nothing can lessen:  the Believer is an heir to Joy, which no one can take away.  Where now is the joy of the murderers of our Lord and the sorrow of His Friends?  v23-27 Asking of The Father shows a sense of spiritual wants and a desire of spiritual blessings with conviction that they are to be had from God only.  Asking in Christ’s name, is acknowledging our unworthiness to receive any favours from God and shows full dependence upon Christ as the Lord of our Righteousness.  Our Lord had hitherto spoken in parables to the disciples, which they did not fully understand:  but after His Resurrection He would plainly teach them such things as related to the Father and The Way to Him:  through His Intercession.  And let us remember that to address the Father in the name of Christ, or to address the Son as God dwelling in human nature and reconciling the world to Himself, are the same since the Father and Son are one.  v28-33 Here is a plain declaration of Christ’s coming from The Father and His return to Him.  The Redeemer, in His entrance, was God manifest in the flesh, and in His departure was received up into Glory.  By this saying the disciples improved in knowledge.  Also in faith:  “Now are we sure”.  And while we have God’s favourable presence, we are happy and ought to be easy, though all the world forsake us.  We ought to be encouraged, because Christ has overcome the world before us.  But while we think we stand, let us take heed lest we fall.  Let us watch and pray without ceasing that we may be able to overcome the world through Christ Jesus.  Amen.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/The Work of The Holy Spirit

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

“The Work of The Holy Spirit”, John 16:1) These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.  2) They shall put you out of the synagogues:  yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.  Acts 8:1.  3) And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.  4) But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.  And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.  5) But now I go My way to Him that sent me; and none of you asketh Me, Whither goest thou?  6) But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.  7) Nevertheless I tell you the truth, It is expedient for you that I go away:  for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  Ephesians 4:8.  8) And when he is come, he will reprove (convince) the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.   9) Of sin, because they believe not on Me:  Acts 2;22; Galatians 3:22.  10) Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;  1 Corinthians 1:30; Galatians 5:5.  11) Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.  12) I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:  for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:  and he will shew you things to come.  1Timothy 4:1.  14) He shall glorify me:  for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.  15) All things that the Father hath are mine:  therefore, said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.  Colossians 1:19.  16) In a little while, and ye shall not see me:  and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v1-2 They will put you out of the synagogues…kill you: The persecution that the disciples would face included excommunication and even execution. Excommunication had economic as well as religious implications because much of the life of an ancient Jew revolved around the synagogue. The murderers of believers would imagine that they were offering a sacrifice to God. v3-4 at the beginning… Jesus had been preparing His disciples to assimilate the truth (Proverbs 22:6). In His Wisdom, the Lord never gives us more that we can handle. v5 none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? Peter and Thomas had asked earlier in 13:36 and 14:5. However, things were different now. The disciples had learned about denials, suffering and death. v6-7 Jesus explained the benefits of His departure. When He left, the believers would have 1) the provision of the Holy Spirit, (vv7-15); 2) the potential of full joy (16-24); 3) the possibility of fuller knowledge (vv25-28); 4) the privilege of peace (vv29-33). unto you… The Holy Spirit would not be given unto the world but to Believers. v8 The Holy Spirit would demonstrate the truth of Christ beyond the fear of contradiction. The Holy Spirit convicts unbelievers through Believers who witness about Christ (15:26, 27). The content of the witness that the Spirit reinforces includes truth about sin, righteousness, and judgment. . v9 of sin…Our witness should not focus on sins (adultery, gluttony, pride and other sins) but on the full payment that Christ has made for all sin. Belief in the full pardon is the only cure for the disease of sin. v10 of righteousness Jesus’ work on the cross was completely righteous. This is demonstrated by the Father raising Christ up from the dead and the empty tomb, signifying His satisfaction with Christ’s righteous payment and His acceptance of Christ into His presence. Christ did all that He was sent to do. v11 of judgment…The Holy Spirit would convince people of the judgment to come. v12 The Holy Spirit’s ministry to the Apostles (one sent forth) was threefold: 1) He would guide them into all truth (v13); 2) He would tell them of the future (v13); 3) He would help them glorify Christ (vv14, 15). v13 Spirit of Truth The Holy Spirit is the source of Truth 14:17; 15:26. guide: He would lead the Apostles and their job would be to follow. All truth refers to the truth necessary to be mature Saints and thoroughly equipped servants (2Timothy 3:16, 17). v14 The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ by making Him known. v15 There is no division in the “Godhead”. What the Father has, the Son has (17:10). What the Son has the Spirit will declare (1Corinthians 2;13). v16 You will see Me… 1)the disciples would literally see Jesus after the Resurrection; 2) the disciples would spiritually see Jesus after the Ascension.
More to come and God Bless You.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/The World Hates The Disciples

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

“The World Hates The Disciples”, John 15:18) If the World hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you.  1John 3:1.  19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own:  but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.  1John 4:5.  20) Remember the Word that I said unto you,  The servant is not greater than his lord.  If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.  Ezekiel 3:7.  21) But all these things will they do unto you for My name’s sake, because they know not Him that sent Me.  22) If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin:  but now they have no cloke (or excuse) for their sin.  23) He that hateth Me hateth My Father also.  1John 2:23.  24) If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin:  but now have they both seen and hated both Me and My Father.  25) But this cometh to pass, that the Word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated Me without a cause.  Psalm 69:4.  26) But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of Me:  Acts 1:4; 1John 5;6.  27) And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with Me from the beginning.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary/Quest Study Bible – v18 hated Me:  As Jesus spoke these words, the Pharisee’s were planning to kill Him (11:45-57).  The world hated Him, so it should not be surprising that the world hates His followers.  v22-25 My Father also….Since Christ and the Father are One, those who hate Christ hate the Father.  Does Jesus excuse those who haven’t heard of Him?  v22 Jesus is saying that before He came into the world people could plead “not guilty” to rejecting Him directly.  Still, they had enough spiritual knowledge, which they had ignored and for which they could be condemned (Romans 1:20).  Christ has now revealed God so fully and clearly that people are responsible for what they do with their knowledge of Him (v23).  Thus the repeating over and over again of His Gospel (the Good News of Christ Jesus).   As for those who never had the chance to hear the gospel see Romans 2:14-16v26, 27 He shall testify…you also will bear witness:  As the disciples spoke, the Holy Spirit would bring conviction to unbelievers about Christ.  This in turn should make the disciples witnesses for Jesus.

More to come and God Bless You.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/The Vine and the Branches

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

continued, “I And The Father Are One”,  The existence of the Father and Son as One God yet two distinct persons baffles the human mind.  It’s a mystery that cannot be fully explained by logic or reason.  Yet; because the Bible teaches the Unity of God and the Deity of Christ:  we must accept the fact that an Infinite (unlimited) God cannot be comprehended by finite (limited) humans.  When we meet Christ face to face:  it’s possible that some such mysteries will be better understood.  Quest Study Bible.

“The Vine And The Branches”, John 15: 1) I Am the True Vine, and My Father is the Husbandman.  2) Every branch in Me that beareth not fruit He taketh away:  and every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit..  Hebrews 6:8.   3) Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  Ephesians 5:26; 1Peter 1:22.   4) Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me.  Colossians 1:23; 1John 2:6.  5) I am the Vine, ye are the branches:  He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:  for without Me ye can do nothing.  Hosea 14:8.   6) If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.  Hebrews 6:4-6.   7) If ye abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  8) Herein is My Father Glorified, that ye bear much fruit, so shall ye be My Disciples.  9) As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you; continue ye in My Love.  10) If ye keep My Commandments, ye shall abide in My Love; even as I have kept My Father’s  Commandments, and abide in His Love.  11) These things have I spoken unto you, that My Joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.  1John 1:4.  12) This is My Commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  1Thessalonians 4:9.  13) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  Romans 5:7.  14) Ye are My Friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  15) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth:   but  I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of My Father I have made known unto you.  Genesis 18:17-19; Romans 16:25, 26.  16) Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain:  that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My Name, He may give it you.  1John 4:10; Mark 16:15.  17) These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Mathew Henry, Quest Study Bible, Nelson’s Compact Commentary – v1 -8 Jesus Christ is the True Vine.  His Divine nature and the fullness of the Spirit that is in Him make the Vine fruitful.  Believers are branches of this Vine.  The root bears the tree and diffuses  it’s sap.  In Christ are all supports and supplies.  Believers are the branches of the vine.  Weak and unable to stand unless they are borne up.  The Father is the Husbandman…there is no other Husbandman as wise and watchful about His Vineyard as God is about His Church.  From a vine we look for grapes and from a Christian we look for a Christian temper, disposition and life.  We must honour God and do good; this is bearing fruit.  The unfruitful are taken away.   And even fruitful branches need pruning:  for sins committed by thought or deed that need to be taken away.  The Word of Christ is spoken to all believers; and there is a cleansing virtue in that word; as it works grace; and works out corruption.  In order to be fruitful, we must abide in Christ.  Those who abide not in Christ, though they may flourish for awhile will come to nothing.  The fire is the fittest place for withered branches.  Let us seek to live more simply on the fullness of Christ.   v9-17 All that love the Saviour should continue in their love to Him and take all occasions to show it.  The joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment but the joy of those who abide in Christ’s Love is a continual feast.  They are to show love to Him by keeping His Commandments and His Grace will provide all that is needed, for those that are obedient.  If the same power that first shed abroad the love of Christ in our hearts, did not keep us in that love, we should not long abide in it.  Christ’s Love should direct us to love one another.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/I And My Father Are One

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

“I and My Father are One”.  John 10:30.

The New Combined Bible and Commentary – The Triune God. Three in One. The Godhead is revealed in three distinct persons in the Bible. The Father praised the Son in Matthew 3:16, 17; Mark 1:10; and Luke 3:21, 22. The Father is God (Matthew 11:25; John 6:27; Romans 15:6. The Son is God (John 1:1, 18; Romans 9:5; Philippians 2:6; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:8). The Spirit is God (Acts 5:3; 1 Corinthians 2:10; Ephesians 2:22). That each is distinct and has a different work is implied in the above passages.

FAITH – Is to hold firmly onto something with confidence and conviction. The common use is active, meaning to believe something or in someone. The Gospel of John uses the verb “to believe” as if to say that faith in Christ is a working active process or “Way of Life”.

This is about Timothy, a young Pastor of the Church in Ephesus. There were “false teachers” that threatened to undermine the Apostle Paul’s work in setting up the church. Paul, who was imprisoned because of his beliefs, wrote these 2 Letters to Timothy to encourage him by offering practical nitty-gritty wisdom.

“The Lord’s Approved Workman” 2Timothy 2:14
14Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.…

Combined Bible Dictionary and Commentary –  Instead of looking for ways to question God’s Holy Word; let’s embrace The Bible. Although we may never understand all of the mysteries of God and His Word, (that’s why we need FAITH) we must seek out the message, the truth of all Scripture “that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2Timothy 3:17).

1Timothy 6:4
they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions

2Timothy 2:23
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.

Quest Study Bible/My Beliefs –  How do we know what Doctrine (Teaching) is sound?  2Timothy 4:3.  Sound Doctrine is the eternal, unchanging truth about God and the Gospel.  Doctrine, teaching, that merely scratches “itching ears” cares nothing for the truth; it’s concern is that it sound good (or makes sense to us) and therefore we stumble over God’s Word and allow the enemy an opportunity to cause doubt in us regarding the validity of the Scriptures so that we pick and choose what we want to believe.  Unfortunately, the unbelief of Christ as the Son of God, is a major stumbling block for many and our enemy rejoices at our loss.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Promises The Holy Spirit

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

Many thanks to you, Bryan McDonald for your support and your very interesting Blog! 🙂

“Jesus Promises The Holy Spirit”, John 14:15) If ye love Me, keep My Commandments.  1 Corinthians 16:22.  16) And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Romans 8:15.  17) Even the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him; but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  1John 2:27.  18) I will not leave you comfortless:  I will come to you.  19) Yet a little while, and the world seeth Me no more; but ye see me:  because I live, ye shall live also;  1Corinthians 15:20.  20) At that day ye shall know that I Am in My Father, and ye in Me, and I in you.  John 10:38.  21) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me:  and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him.  22) Judas saith unto Him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest Thyself unto us, and not unto the world?  23) Jesus answered and said unto him,  If a man love Me, he will keep My Words:  and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him.  Psalm 91:1.  24) He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings; and the Word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father which sent Me.  25) These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.  26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send In My Name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.  Luke 24:49.  27) Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  Colossians 3:15.  28) Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you.  If ye loved Me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father:  for My father is greater than I.  Galatians 4:4.  29) And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.  30) Hereafter I will not talk much with you.  for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.  2Corinthians 5:21.  31) But that the world may know that I Love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do.  Arise, let us go hence.  Philippians 2:8.

John Gill’s Exposition – v15 If ye love Me…Not that Christ doubted of the love of His disciples to Him; keep My Commandments… v16 And I will pray the Father…Here Christ speaks as Mediator, and promises His disciples, that He would intercede for them with the Father; which is designed as an encouragement to them to ask for what they want, in His name, and to comfort their hearts, which were troubled at the news of His departure from them; and He shall give you another Comforter….. This is no inconsiderable proof of a Trinity of Persons in the Godhead; here is the Father prayed unto, the Son in human nature praying, and the Holy Ghost the Comforter prayed for; who is the gift of the Father, and now He was about to leave them, and for their support under their sorrows, He promises to ask of His Father, that he would give them another Comforter, meaning the Spirit, who performs this his work and office, by taking of the things of Christ, and showing them to His people; by shedding abroad the love of the Father, and of the Son, into their hearts;  that he may abide with you forever…. as long as you live; and with all those that shall succeed you in the work of the ministry,  unto the end of the world.  v17 Even the Spirit of Truth whom the world cannot receive……These words explain who is meant by the Comforter, “even the Spirit of truth”; the true Spirit of God, the dictator of the Scriptures of truth, who leads men into the truths of the Gospel,  whom the world cannot receive; the men of the world, who are as they came into the world, carnal and natural men, can neither receive the Spirit nor the things of the Spirit, because they cannot understand them, therefore they do not love them, but despise and hate them: But ye know him; as a spirit of illumination, regeneration, and conversion: for he dwelleth with you; he is an inhabitant in your hearts, he has taken up his residence in you as his temples:  and shall be in you; as a Comforter, when I am gone from you; and as a spirit of truth to guide you into all truth, to stand by you, and assist you in preaching it, and to enable you to bear a faithful and glorious testimony for it. v18 I will not leave you comfortless,…. Gr. “orphans”, or “fatherless”.  I will come to you; in a very short time, as he did; for on the third day he rose again from the dead, and appeared to them, which filled them with great joy. v19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more,….they will see me no more until the time that I shall come in the clouds of heaven to judge the world; and then every eye shall see me: but ye see me; ye see me now, and shall see me after my resurrection, as they did; for then he appeared alive and conversed with them for forty days; and when he ascended into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God, they saw him by faith crowned with glory and honour; and will see him as he is when he comes a second time to take them to himself in glory.  Because I live, Christ lives as God, as man, and as Mediator: as God, He lives the same life His Father does, partaking of the same nature, and possessing the same perfections; so he lived from everlasting, and will live to everlasting; as man, He lived first a private, and then a public life, attended with meanness, reproaches, sorrows, and sufferings; a life which was filled up with acts of devotion and piety to God, and with doing good to the bodies and souls of men; He lived in all obedience to the law of God, and at last endured the penalty of that law, in the stead of His people; when His life was taken away for a while, and then taken up by Him again; and now, He lives, and lives for evermore. As Mediator, He has his life from the Father, by whom He was set up from everlasting; and as such will live to everlasting, to make intercession for his people, and to rule until all enemies are made His footstool. And His people “live also”,

Matthew Henry Commentary – v20 -31 Love will be a commanding, constraining principle; and where love is, duty follows from a principle of gratitude. We must pray for, and depend on the teaching of the Holy Ghost, thus the words of Jesus will be brought to our remembrance, and many difficulties be cleared up which are not plain to others.Satan has something in us to perplex us with, for we have all sinned; but when he would disturb Christ, he found nothing sinful to help him. The best evidence or our love to the Father is, our doing as He has commanded us. Amen.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Comforts His Disciples/Jesus the Way To the Father

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

Today in Church Service we had two testimonies of Christ touching the lives of Believers.  Our Sr. Pastor reported that his health is improving and that his doctors are amazed at his recovery.  Also, a young man gave a testimony of having been miraculously cured of cancer when he was 11 yrs. old.  His father who was in prison was allowed to visit his son while he was in the hospital because they did not expect the son to live.  The father who found Christ in prison prayed with his son all night and the next day when the doctor’s x-rayed the son for a possible bone-marrow transplant found that there was no longer any cancer and said it had to be a miracle.  Praise God!  Jesus, the same yesterday, and today and forever!!!!!!!  Hebrews 13:8.

“Jesus Comforts His Disciples” John 14:1) Let not your heart be troubled:  ye believe in God, believe also in Me.  2) In My Father’s house are many mansions:  if it were not so, I would have told you.  I  go to prepare a place for you.  2Corinthians 5:1.  3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I Am, there ye may be also.  Acts 1:11; 1Thessalonians 4:17.   4) And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

“Jesus The Way To The Father” John 14:5) Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?  6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and The Life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.  2John 9, Revelations 5:8, 9.  7) If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.  8) Philip saith unto Him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?  he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?  Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3.  10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?  the words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself:  but the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works.  11) Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me:  or else believe Me for the very works’ sake.  12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.  13) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  Mark 11:24; James 1:5.  14) If ye shall ask any thing in My Name, I will do it.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary/Matthew Henry-v1-11 Here are thee words upon any of which stress may be laid. Upon the word trouble: Be not cast down and disquieted. The word heart: Let your heart be kept with full trust in God. Here is the remedy against this trouble of mind, “Believe”. The happiness of Heaven is spoken of as in a Father’s house. There are many mansions, for there are many sons to be brought to glory. Mansions are lasting dwellings. Christ will be the Finisher of that of which He is the Author; if He has prepared a place for us, He will prepare us for it. Christ is the sinner’s Way to the Father and to Heaven, in His person as God manifest in the flesh, in His Atoning (to make better) sacrifice, and as our Advocate. Through His Death and Resurrection, Jesus is The Way to the Father. He is also the Truth and The Life. As Truth He is The Revelation of God. As Life, He is the communication of God to us. Christ is, The Resurrection and The Life. All that saw Christ by faith, saw the Father in Him. v12-14 Whatever we ask in Christ’s name, that shall be for our good, He shall give it to us. To ask in Christ’s name, is to plead His Excellence and His Intersession (His intervention).

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

“Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial”, John 13:31) Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in Him.  1Peter 4:11.  32) If God be glorified in Him, God shall also glorify Him in Himself, and shall straightway glorify Him.  33) Little children, yet a little while I am with you.  Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.  34) A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  Ephesians 5:2.  35) By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  36) Simon Peter said unto Him, Lord, whither goest thou?  Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.  2Peter 1:14.  37) Peter said unto Him, Lord why cannot I follow thee now?  I will lay down my life for thy sake.  Luke 22:33.  38) Jesus answered Him,  Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake?  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

Quest Study Bible, v32 Christ had been glorified (Honored) in many miracles He wrought, yet He spake of His being glorified now in His sufferings. v34-35 What’s the test of loving one another?  God measures love by obedience, not by warm feelings.  In His first epistle (letter),  John says that believers know that they love one another by obedience to God’s commands (1John 5:2).  Love and obedience are so closely connected that John says, This is love for God, to obey His Commands (1John 5:3).  The Ten Commandments:  1) You shall have no other gods before me. 2) Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, nor bow down to them, nor serve them:  for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God.  Leviticus 26:1.  3) Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.  Micah 6:11.  4) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. Deuteronomy 5:12;  Luke 13:14.  5) Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days shall be long upon the land.  6) Thou shalt not kill.  7) Thou shalt not commit adultery.  Matthew 5:27.  8) Thou shalt not steal.  9) Thou shalt not bear false witness (lie) against thy neighbour.  19) Thou shalt not covet (want) thy neighbour’s house, wife, manservant, maidservant, ox, ass (animal), nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.  Proverbs 6:29; Matthew 5:28.  v37-38 Christ knows us better than we know ourselves and has many ways of revealing those to themselves.  Matthew Henry.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

“Come Thou Font Of Every Blessing” by the BYU Combined Choruses and Vocal Witness.  Two very different versions.  “Come thou font of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy praise.   Streams of mercy never ceasing call for songs of loudest praise.  Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.  Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love.  Prone to wonder, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.  Here’s my heart oh, take and seal it seal it for thy courts above. Old Testament reference, 1 Samuel 4, 7(Beautiful)

“Jesus Predicts His Betrayal”, John 13:18) I speak not of you all:  I know whom I have chosen:  but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with Me hath lifted up his heel against Me.  2Timothy 2:19; Revelations 2:23.  19) Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am He.  20) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth Me; and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me.  21) When Jesus had thus said, He was troubled in Spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray Me.  Acts 17:16.  22) Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom He spoke.  23) Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus Loved.  24) Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom He spake.  25) He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto Him, Lord, who is it?  26) Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop (morsel), when I have dipped it.  And when He had dipped the sop, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.  27) And after the sop Satan entered into him.  Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. Psalm 109:6; Luke 22:3.  28) Now no man at the table knew for what intent He spake this unto him.  29) For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.  John 12:6.  30) He then having received the sop went immediately out and it was night.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v18, Jesus quoted Psalm 41:9 to explain the action of Judas.  Lifting up his heel was a gesture of insult or a preparation to kick.  v19-21 troubled : faced with His own death and betrayal, Jesus was deeply moved.  v22, 23 leaning on Jesus’ bosom, people did not generally sit at table to eat.  They reclined on the left side of a low platform, resting on the left elbow and eating with the right hand, reclining in such a way, a man’s head was near the bosom of the person on the left.  The disciple whom Jesus loved is believed to be John, the author of this gospel.  v26, 27 First, the devil put ideas in the head of Judas (v2); here, Satan entered Judas.  Judas’ actions were the result of the deepest thoughts of his heart.  v28-30 it was night:  Not only did Judas go out into the darkness of the night; he had also entered into spiritual darkness, separated from Jesus, the Light of the World. (8:12; 9:5)

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Washes His Disciples Feet

A Christ Filled Life – Getting to Know Jesus

Thank you so much, Sandra Vergara, “In Her Words Avenue” Blog.  She has encouraged me to keep sharing the Word of God on this Blog.  Bless you Sandra.

A “Born Again Believer in Christ Jesus”,  “… ye are a chosen generation, a Royal Priesthood, an Holy Nation, a peculiar people (distinguished characteristic), that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light:  1 Peter 2:9.  Exodus 19:5, 6;  Revelations 5:10.

“Jesus Washes His Disciples Feet”, John 13:1) Now before the feast of the Passover (Exodus 12), when Jesus knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved His Own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end.  2) And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him; 3) Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His Hands, and that He was come from God, and went to God; 4) He riseth from supper, and laid aside His garments; and took a towel, and girded Himself.  5) After that He poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciple’s feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded.  6) Then cometh He to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto Him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?  7) Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter.  8) Peter saith unto Him, Thou shalt never wash my feet.  Jesus answered Him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.  9) Simon Peter saith unto Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.  10) Jesus saith to Him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but Is clean every whit and ye are clean, but not all.  2Corinthians 7:1; 1Thessalonians 5:23.   11) For He knew who should betray Him, therefore said He, Ye are not all clean.  12) So after He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again, He said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?  13) Ye call me Master and Lord:  and ye say well; for so I Am.  Luke 6:46; 1Corinthians 8:6; Philippians 2:11.  14) If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.  Philippians 2:2-5; 1Peter 5:5.  15) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.  Philippians 2:5. 16) Verily, verily (Truly, truly) I say unto you, The servant is not greater than His Lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.  Luke 6:40.  17) If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

John Gill’s Commentary –  v5 The custom of washing feet was servile work, never performed by superiors to their inferiors, but by the servant to his master; and was an instance of great humility.  But what a surprising instance that Christ, the Lord and Master, should wash the feet of His Disciples, when it was their proper work and business to have washed his?  and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded;  and having washed their feet, He wipes them clean; which may design the purity of the saints in general, and of the ministers of the Gospel in particular, whose feet are beautiful when shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. v8 Jesus answered him, if I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me He does not say, if I wash not thy feet, meaning not with water, but with His blood, and by His Spirit; for Christ uses the word wash in a mystical and figurative sense: moreover, He does not say, thou hast no part “in” Me, but thou hast no part “with” Me, that is, no fellowship and communion with Me; see ( 2 Corinthians 6:14v10 Jesus saith to him, he that is washed… Not he that is baptized; for every such person is not wholly clean, but he who is regenerated by the Spirit of God, who is washed in the blood of Christ: such an one “is clean every whit”.   needeth not, save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit the feet of his life and conversation, which are continually gathering dirt, and need daily washing in the blood of Christ.  v17 happy are ye if ye do them; he that knows and does his Master’s will is blessed with communion with his Lord, and shall hereafter enter into his joy, with “well done good and faithful servant”.
