“Jesus A Miracle Worker”/He Clears The Temple

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Who Jesus Is

John 2:12) After this He went down to Capernaum, He, and His mother, and His brethren, and His disciples: and they continued there many days.  13) And the Jews’ Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, 14) And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15) And when He had made a scourge of small cords, He drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; 16) And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise17) And His disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. Psalm 69:9.  18) Then answered the Jews and said unto Him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?  19) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.  Matthew 12:39, 40, 16:4, 26:61, Mark 14;58.  20) Then said the Jews, Forty six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?  21) But He spake of the temple of His body.  22) When therefore He was risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.  Luke 24:8.  23) Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in His name, when they saw the miracles which He did.  24) But Jesus did not commit Himself unto them, because He knew all men.  25) And needed not that any should testify of man:  for He knew what was in man. Acts 1:24.

Quest Study Bible NIV v13 The Passover, In the Old Testament, Exodus 12. The Angel of the Lord, when destroying the first born of the Egyptians, would pass over the houses marked by the blood of the lamb:  hence the name of this holy feast or ordinance.  The Passover was to be kept every year; both as a remembrance and deliverance out of Egypt, and as a remarkable type of Christ.  v15 Everyone who worshipped in the temple at Jerusalem was required to present a sacrifice accepted as unblemished by a priest and to pay the annual Head Tax using temple currency.  The priests refused to accept foreign currency and so exchanged travelers’ money at exorbitant rates.  They also regularly rejected any animal that wasn’t purchased at the temple ( at inflated prices).  Such exploitation under the guise of proper worship of God made Jesus angry. v16,17  The cleansing of the temple was the first public presentation of Jesus to Israel; He presented Himself as Messiah.  The expression My Father’s House was a distinct claim to messiahship.  v18  It was common in the Old Testament for prophets to prove their authenticity by performing a miracle.  This established that they were sent by God.  Yet Jesus was reluctant to perform signs for skeptics.  Instead He offered a riddle about raising the temple, which referred to His future death and resurrection on the third day, as the only miracle they needed to see to believe in Him as  Messiah.  v25 Jesus fully understood the depth of trust of those that were following Him; some would stay but many would fall away.

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus John 3:1) There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.  2) The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God:  for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.  3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  4)  Nicodemus saith unto Him, How can a man be born when he is old?  can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?  5)  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of  water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 1Peter 1:21.  6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7) Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  8) The wind bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth:   so is everyone that is born of the spirit.  Ecclesiastes 11:5.  9) Nicodemus answered and said unto Him, How can these things be? 10) Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?  11) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know and testify that we have seen and ye receive not our witness.  12) If I have told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?  13) And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.  Acts 2:34, 1Corinthians 15:47.  14) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  15) That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  16) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  17) For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.  18) He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  Romans 8:1.  19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.   Isaiah 5:20.  20) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved (discovered).  21) But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Quest Study Bible NIV – v3 To enter God’s kingdom that requires something that is impossible by human standards–to be reborn.  By this, Jesus refers to work of the Holy Spirit in breathing life into our sinful and dead spiritual nature.  When we are born again we become a new person, forgiven of our sins and granted an intimate friendship with God. v5 Spiritual birth, the dawning of spiritual awareness. To be baptized, repentance symbolized by water.  Life in the Spirit, awakening to the reality of God’s Spirit working in a person’s life.  v8 Jesus used the wind as an illustration of the work of the Holy Spirit.  As the wind seemingly blows where it wills, so the Holy Spirit sovereignly works.  v14 Refers to the Old Testament, Numbers 21:8-9, After poisonous snakes infested the Israelite’s camp, Moses made a bronze serpent, attached it to a pole and lifted it up. Those who looked to it with faith were healed.  In a similar way, Jesus says He will be lifted up on a cross and those who turn in faith to Him will be saved from the poison of sin. v16-18 To believe in Christ involves more than just agreeing that Jesus’ words are true.  It means to trust in Christ alone for your salvation.  It is deciding to place your fate in the hands of Jesus, trusting Him to be your Lord and His Word to be your command. Amen.

A Christ Filled Life

“Jesus the Lamb of God “

John 1:29)  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.  30) This is He of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me:  for He was before me.  31) And I knew Him not:  but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.  32) And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.  33) And I knew Him not:  but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shat see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.  34)  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.  35) Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36)  And looking upon Jesus as He walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!  37) And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.  38) Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye?  They said unto Him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?  39) He saith unto them.  Come and see.  They came and saw where He dwelt, and abode with Him that day:  for it was about the tenth hour.  40)  One of the two which heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.  41)  He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.  42)  And he brought him to Jesus, And when Jesus beheld him He said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona:  thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

The Quest Study Bible Commentary – Lambs were used in the temple as a daily sacrifice to remove the sins of the people.  A symbol of innocence, they bore the people’s guilt as a substitutionary offering.  Seven hundred years earlier, Isaiah had predicted the Messiah, who would offer His life, led like a lamb to the slaughter(Isaiah 53:7), to atone for the sins of the world.   Compact Bible Commentary – v50-51 Refers to the miracles performed in chapters 2 – 11.  Jacob has a vision of angels ascending and descending a ladder from heaven (Genesis 28:12).  The thought here is similar, that there will be communication between heaven and earth.  Son of Man and expression used in Daniel 7:13 was Jesus’ favorite designation of Himself (Matthew 8:20, Mark 2:10).

Jesus Changes Water to Wine

John 2:1)  And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:  2) And both Jesus was called and  His disciples, to the marriage.  3) An when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto Him, They hove no wine.  4) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee?  mine hour is not yet come.  5) His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it. 6) And there were set there six water pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins (20 or 30 gallons) apiece Hebrews 10:22.  7) Jesus saith unto them, Fill the water pots with water.  And they filled them up to the brim.  8) And He saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.  9) When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was:  (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,  10) And saith unto him, Everyman at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.  11) This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him. KJV

Quest Study Bible Commentary – Jesus was not being rude to His mother.  This was shown by her commanding the servants, anyway, to do whatever He tells them.  Jesus was reminding her that His hour had not come for people to know His true identity.  Completely in tune with the will of God, He was waiting for the right moment to fulfill the purpose for which God had sent Him into the world. v3 A wedding feast usually lasted a week.  To run out of wine at such a time would be completely humiliating for the bride and groom.  There was want at the marriage feast.  It is very desirable when there is a marriage to have Christ’s blessing. Those of us that want Christ with us in our marriage must invite Him by prayer and He will come.

Though Christ allows a right use of wine, He does not in the least do away His own caution, which is that our hearts be not at any time overcharged with drunkenness, Luke 21:34.  We can feast with our friends and family on proper occasions, these occasions should be so conducted that we might invite the Redeemer to join with us.

The First Miracle, for all miracles come from God.

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43) The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.  44) Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.  45) Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.  46) And Nathaniel said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?  Philip saith unto him, Come and see.  47) Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!  48) Nathanael saith unto Him, Whence knowest thou me?  Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.  49) Nathanael answered and saith unto Him, Rabbi, thou are the Son of God, thou are the King of Israel.  50) Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?  thou shalt see greater things than these.  51) And He saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

Quest Study Bible Commentary – v46 Nathanael had good reason to doubt the credentials of someone from Nazareth touted as the Messiah.  It was an obscure town never mentioned in the Old Testament.  It had also become a barracks for Roman troops who brought with them their Gods, their sins and their oppression of the Jews.  These factors made it seem improbable that it could be the hometown of the Messiah.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker II “

A Christ Filled Life

cont’d Matthew Henry Commentary – v1-5 Why the Son of God is called the Word, seems to be, that as our words explain our minds to others, so was the Son of God sent in order to reveal His Father’s mind to the world.  What the evangelist, John the Baptist says of Christ proves that He is God.  He existed in the beginning and coexisted with the Father.  The Word was with God, all things were made by Him.  Without Him was not anything made that was made.  This eternal Word, this true Light shines, but the darkness comprehends it not.  Let us pray that we may walk in it and be made wise unto salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ.  v12-14 Many say that they are Christ’s own, yet do not receive Him, because they will not part with their sins, nor have Him to reign over them.  All the children of God are born again.  This new birth is through the word of God as the means, 1 Peter 1:23, and by the Spirit of God as the Author.  Christ always was in the world.  But now that the fullness of time had come, He was God manifested in the flesh.  Although He was in the form of a servant, as to outward circumstances, His form was like the Son of God.  His Divine glory (magnificence) appeared in the holiness (Godliness) of His doctrine (teaching), and in His Miracles. v15-18  As to the order of time and entrance on His work, Christ came after John, but in every other way He was before him.  All fullness dwells in Christ, from which fallen sinners have and shall receive, by faith, all that renders them wise, strong, holy, useful and happy.  What we receive from Christ can be summed up in this one word, grace; we have received “His Grace”, a gift so great, so rich, so valuable; the good will of God towards us, and the good work of God in us.  v14  Only through Christ Jesus can we receive God’s mercy.  No man can come to the Father but by Him, Christ Jesus.  No man can know God, except he believe in His only begotten and beloved Son.

John the Baptist Denies Being the Christ

19)  And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?  20) And he confessed, and denied no; but confessed, I am not the Christ (The Messiah).  21)  And they asked him, What then?  Art thou Elias?  And he saith, I am not.  Art thou that prophet? (Moses had predicted that a prophet like himself would come Deuteronomy 18:15) And he answered, no.  22)  Then said they unto him, Who art thou?  that we may give an answer to them that sent us.  What sayest thou of thyself?  23) He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias ( Isaiah 40:3).  24) And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.  25) And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?  26) John answered them, saying I baptize with water:  but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; (Malachi 3:1) 27)  He, it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.  28) These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. KJV

The Quest Study Bible Commentary – Jewish ceremonies included ritual washings, but normally only non Jews were baptized when they converted to Judaism.  The Pharisees (religious experts) questioned John’s practice because he was baptizing Jews, in effect, he was treating Jews like Gentiles (non Jews).  His baptism symbolized repentance, in preparation for the one to come who would forgive sins.  John’s baptism prepared people to meet the Messiah.

“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”

Miracle, Miraculous-Webster:  A supernatural event due to divine action.  Miraculous:  of, like, involving or having the nature of a miracle.

Have you ever had a miracle happen where you know that only God could have done this thing for you?  I have.  I’ve been so sick that I was afraid I wouldn’t get well and I prayed to the Lord to please help me and went to sleep (a good sign) and woke up feeling so much better.  All in my mind you might say but for me instead of getting worse I got better!  There have been countless other miracles that God has given me over the years.  There was a time I never had enough money to pay the rent and the Landlord showed up and sat down at my kitchen table and worked out a payment plan so that my son and I would not be homeless.  Yeah right, you might say but it never happened before and it hasn’t happened since. Eventually, I believe because of the goodness of his heart, he was able to sell his property when the market was booming.  I will always be thankful to him and his wife who answered the phone many times when I called to ask for more time and was always kind.  God Bless Them!  But the biggest miracle He did for me was to Save me from Hell and damnation.  His shed blood on Calvary has washed away my sins and the sins of the world so that whenever God looks at us He looks at us through the blood of Jesus shed on Calvary  and continues to gives us grace and mercy, divine love and protection.  Christ Jesus blessed me even though I had not completely given my life to Him.  I know that God through His Son Jesus has done miraculous things in all of our lives.  John 10:32… but Jesus said to them “I have shown you many great miracles from the Father.  For which of these do you stone me?”  Why did they want to stone Him?  Because He claimed a unique unity with the Father indicating His own deity.  The leaders of the Jews considered this to be blasphemy.

There are some wonderful songs on Youtube like Rance Allen’s “He’s a Miracle Worker” and Juanita Bynum’s “You are Great” – You are great, you do miracles, so great, there is no one else like you, there is no one else like you.

How can we have faith and trust in Him if we don’t know who He is; we need to know who Jesus is.   John 3:16)  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  First, Jesus is the son of God

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  7)  If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.

Compact Bible Commentary Through His death and resurrection, Jesus is the way to the Father. Christ is the sinner’s Way to the Father and to Heaven.  He is also the truth and the life.  As truth, He is the revelation of God.  As life, He is the communication of God to us.  We are too sinful for God to have direct contact with us.  He sent His Son to be a mediator between God and man.

The four Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John offer firsthand knowledge of Christ Jesus.  What He said and did; where He went and what happened to Him.  Although each book may vary depending on the writer’s view they do not contradict.  I have chosen the book of John because it tells us how to find eternal life through Jesus Christ.

John 1

1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2) The same was in the beginning with God.  3) All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.  4) In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.  5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.  6) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  7) The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through Him might believe.  8) He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  9) That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.  10) He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.  11) He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.  12) But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:  13) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace of truth.  15) John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was He of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me:  for He was before me.  16) And of His fullness have all received, and grace for grace.  17) For the law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.  18) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him.

Study Bible Commentary NIV – 1) Word (logos) to mean the divine mind. To Jews word means Gods personal and active involvement in the world.  The creation is one example, when God spoke the word and the earth came into existence.  In this verse, it refers to Jesus Christ, who is the personal presence of God.  6) John the Baptist was sent for two reasons:  to call the world to repentance (Mark 1:4) and to prepare the way for the coming Messiah (1:23).  In the Old Testament, God often prepared people for some mighty action on His part by sending a prophet to call the people to repentance. John the cousin to Jesus (Luke 1:39-45), was the last of these prophets.  John called people to prepare for the arrival of Jesus Christ. 18) Because Jesus is God, He reveals to us what God is like (Hebrews 1:3).

A Christ Filled Life/I Won’t Complain

Living a Christian Life is not easy.  If it were; I or we, would not have needed the Son of God to come down from His Throne in Heaven to suffer and die on the cross to Save us.  Without Him we cannot overcome sin.

The Armor of God.  Apostle Paul writes to the Ephesians 6: 10-18; 10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. 11) Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15)  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God:  18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; KJV

Commentary/The Quest Study Bible:  The good news is that Satan and his forces have been defeated and disarmed (Colossians 2:15).  The Armor of God pictures the protection Jesus gives us against demonic attack.  Spiritual warfare for Believers, therefore, is fought in the mind, emotions and the will.  Scriptural truth is our primary line of defense.  The Apostle Paul frequently urges us to be renewed in our minds (Romans 12:1-2; Col. 3:1-3). The more our minds are filled with the truth of God’s Word, the less susceptible we are to Satan’s deceptions and temptations.  To dislodge Satan’s influence in someone’s life, a supernatural encounter of God’s power and truth is required.  Romans 1:16a I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes:…

Praise God for His Son Jesus and all that He does for us!

Having been renewed in my mind of the truth of Christ Jesus and all that He has done for me.  I pray, also, that you realize that He has done the same for you and continues to do it for the whole world.

We will have trials and tribulations, disappointments and heartaches but through them all, He is there to comfort us; to strengthen us, to see us through.  I am so grateful that He, the Son of God, great and HOLY, looked on me; filthy rags; a wretch undone and had mercy.  He went to the cross for me and for the whole world and rose up and defeated the enemy death and all who believe on Him shall have Life Everlasting in Him.  Amen.

I am reminded of a song “I Won’t Complain”

I’ve had some good days, I’ve had some hills to climb, I’ve had some weary days, And some sleepless nights, But when I look around, And I think things over, All of my good days, out weigh my bad days, I won’t complain

Sometimes the clouds are low, I can hardly see the road, I ask a question Lord, Lord, why so much pain?  But He knows what’s best for me, Although my weary eyes, They can’t see, So I’ll just say thank you Lord, I won’t complain

(Chorus) The Lord has been so good to me, He’s been good to me, More than this old world or you could ever be, He’s been so good to me, He dried all my tears away, Turned my midnights into day, So I’ll just say thank you Lord, I won’t complain

God Bless You.

And so I won’t complain

A Christ Filled Life/Jesus My Savior

Jesus is my Savior.  Webster says a Savior is Someone who saves- The Savior Christ. First, you have to believe that Christ is the Son of God come down from Heaven and that He died on the cross for the sins of the whole world and rose again on the 3rd day, ascended into Heaven and is sitting on the right of the Father interceding daily for us. Saved from what, “A life of sin and shame”;  also, Hell and damnation.  KJV 1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. KJV Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.   made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 1John 3:5 And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities:  the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.  Jesus was not a sinner but God caused Him to take upon Himself all our sin.  This was necessary so that the ministry of reconciliation could take place.  If Jesus had not taken on our sinful condition, the wrongs we have done could never have been made right. If you believe there is evil you have to believe there is good.  If there is a Devil there has to be a God. KJV 1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole Armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. We are warned to be sober, not intoxicated, vigilant, suspicious and watchful of constant danger from this spiritual enemy.   The whole Armor of God  is the Believers protection against evil.  Wiles of the devil are subtle tricks to defeat Christians in spiritual warfare. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. SIN, it all started in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:26 And God said let us make man in Our Image.  Our referring to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Gen 1:27 So God created man is his Own Image; male and female.. Gen 1:28 And God blessed them and God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it… Gen 1:31 And God saw everything that He had made and behold, it was very good.  Gen 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.  Gen 2:8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden and there He put the man who He had formed.  Gen 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  Gen 2:18 And God said, It is not good that man should be alone, I will make him and help mete for him.  Gen 2:21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept:  and He took one of his ribs…Gen 2:22 And the rib , which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman and brought her unto the man.  Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?  Gen 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden.  Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the Garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.  Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.  Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also to her husband with her and he did eat.  Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both wee opened, and they knew that they were naked…..Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid themselves…..Gen 3:9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?  Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself.  Gen 3:11  And He said, Who told thee that thou was naked?  Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?  Gen 3:12  And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done?  And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me and I did eat.  Gen 3: 14  And the Lord God said unto the serpent, because thou hast done this, thou art cursed….upon thy belly thou shalt go and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.  Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise His heel.  (Romans 16:20  And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  Amen.)  When Jesus went to the cross, He was bruised in His heel.  In His resurrection, He defeated His enemy.  From that moment on, Satan has lived on borrowed time.  He is already defeated.   Gen 3:16  Unto the woman, He said, I will greatly multiply thou sorrow and thy conception, in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband and he shall rule over thee.  Gen 3:17  And unto Adam He said, Because thou hast harkened unto the voice of thy wife and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not of it:  cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.  Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;  Gen 3:19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  Gen 3:22  And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever; (To eat of this tree was to live forever.  It was in vain for Adam and his to expect righteousness, life, and happiness, by the covenant of works; for the command of that covenant had been broken, the curse of it is in full force, we are all undone if we are judged by the covenant.)  Gen3:23  Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

But because of Jesus:

Romans 5: 1-11

1) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2) By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3) And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:  knowing that tribulations worketh patience;

4) And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6) For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7) For scarcely for a righteous man will one die:  yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8) But God commndeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9) Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

11)And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received atonement.

Jesus is Our Savior. Amen.

A Christ Filled Life

I Have A Friend

A friend is someone whom one knows and likes.  At least that’s what Webster says.

To know someone; to be acquainted with by experience, to recognize or be familiar with.

This can happen if you see the person enough to get to know them.  Such as a coworker that  you see every day.  Because you spend quite a bit of time at work you are more likely to get know the people around you.  How they act when their in a good mood, a bad mood, tired, sick, depressed or even angry.  Are they friendly or aloof.  If after interacting with this person enough times you will get a pretty good idea of  their character, so to speak, and form an opinion on whether this is someone you could be friendly with.

This can pretty much be how it is with everyone you come in contact with on a regular basis, except, maybe your family.  And I’ll get to family a little later.  I’ve heard it said if you have had 2 or 3 good friends in your lifetime you are Blessed.

Anyway, I went to the Bible to see what it says about a friend and found NIV Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times and a brother is born for adversity.  Meaning a true friend is constant and a real brother helps in times of stress.

The Quest Study Bible, Commentary – Asks how can I know who my friends are?  A test of loyalty.  A genuine friend loves through the best and worst times.  A friends true colors are revealed when we go through unusually difficult or painful circumstances.  A true friend will tell you hard truths, if it will help you.  Some people make poor friends.  Someone who pretends everything is okay.  Those that entice you to commit a crime.  Those that are drunkards or gluttons.  Friends that stick around until the money is gone.  And gossips separate friends, you can’t trust them. (Paraphrased)

We’re told in Proverbs 18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.   Many companions and there could be trouble or they could not be dependable but that one friend that sticks closer to you than a brother is a Blessing from the Lord.

The Lord considers a friend to be the next best thing to family!

I have to ask myself, have I been a good friend.  No, I’m pretty sure I haven’t always been a good friend.  Maybe, I was too selfish, unforgiving, immature and didn’t know what a true friend should be.  It is said to have friends one must be friendly.  In order to be that friend I need to understand the Lord because I have found Him to be a friend.  This, I heard one Sunday morning from a Sis. King who was giving words of encouragement to the congregation some years ago and I have never forgotten them.  “I have found Him to be a friend.”

So, the best friend we will ever have is Jesus the Christ.  How do I know?  Because He has been my friend and will be your friend too.  I’m reminded of an old song called “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.  What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief’s to bear, what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.  Oh what peace we often forfeit and Oh what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.  Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share.  Jesus knows our every weakness take it to the Lord in prayer.  A beautiful song that has comforted me through hard times.

NIV John 15:13-14 Greater love has no man than this, that He lay down His life for His friends.  14) Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  The supreme example of love is Jesus’ humility is sacrificial service.  Christ’s love to us should direct us to love each other.  If Believers obey Jesus’ command to love, they enjoy the intimacy of his friendship.

The whole Bible is about Jesus.  From Genesis to Revelations, He was there from the beginning and to help you to get to know Him better, I want to share a few more verses about Jesus, the best Friend you will ever have!  He’s never too busy, He’s always on time and He died for my sins and for the sins of the whole world that we might have Life Eternal with HIM!

KJV Psalm 23 1) The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.  3) He restoreth my soul;  He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:  for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  5) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:  thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Amen.

Psalm 24:1-5 1)The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.  2) For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.  3) Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in His holy place?  4) He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.   5) He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

John 1:1-4 1) In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2) The same was in the beginning with God.  3) All things were made by Him and without Him was not any thing made that was made.  4) In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.  Amen.

God Bless You.
