“Proverbs of Solomon” VIII, Proverbs 14:16) A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. Romans 1:29; James 4:5. 31) He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. Job 31:15. 32) The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. 33) Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known. 34) Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. 35) The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame. Matthew Henry’s Concise Bible Commentary – v28, Let all that wish well to the Kingdom of Christ, do what they can, that many may be added to His Church. v34, Piety and holiness always promote industry, sobriety, and honesty.
Quest Bible Study – v29, Should I bottle up my feelings? Not necessarily. Emotions are neither good nor bad. But depending on how emotions are used, they can either help or harm us in life. Proverbs makes the case for handling our emotions properly–they should not be denied or buried, but they should be governed by reason and an even temper (17:27). The ability to give a gentle answer in the face of an angry confrontation is a sign of deep character. A heart of peace gives life to the body (v30). Amen.
