A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus
I just listened to “The Old Rugged Cross”, performed by Johnny and June Carter Cash sung to a few thousand people.
“There Is Room At The Cross For You”, another great song. All who believe are welcomed at the cross. All sins are forgiven and there is room for everyone. Don’t worry that someone is going to take your place or your ministry for Christ has made room for all who come to Him. Praise God for His Son Jesus the Christ! Another great song “At The Cross”. “At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the Light and the burdens of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I received my sight and now I am happy all the day!”
“The Death Of Jesus”, John 19:28) After this, Jesus Knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29) Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost. (It is finished: all the types and prophecies of the Old Testament, which pointed at the sufferings of the Messiah were accomplished. It is finished: the ceremonial law is abolished; the substance is now come, and all the shadows are done away. It is finished: an end is made of transgression by bringing in an everlasting righteousness. It is finished: the work of man’s redemption and salvation is now completed. His life was not taken from Him by force, but freely given up. Matthew Henry).
31) The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for the Sabbath day was an high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Exodus 12:18. 32) Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with Him. (How did breaking the legs hasten death? The excruciating pain would bring the victim closer to death. Quest SB) 33) But when they came to Jesus, and saw that He was dead already, they brake not His legs: 34) But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. Zechariah 13:1. (The spear broke up the very fountains of life; no human body could survive such a wound. But its being so solemnly attested, shows there was something peculiar in it. The blood and water that flowed out, signified those two great benefits which all believers partake of through Christ, justification and sanctification, blood for atonement, water for purification. They both flow from the pierced side of our Redeemer. Matthew Henry).
35) And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. 1 John 1:1. (Who was the man that saw these things? John was probably referring to himself, anonymously, again. Quest SB). 36) For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of Him shall not be broken. Numbers 9:12. 37) And again another scripture saith, They shall look on Him whom they pierced. Revelations 1:7.
38) And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. Proverbs 29:25. 39) And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 40) Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. 41) Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid. 2 Kings 23:30; Isaiah 22;16. 43) There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulcher was nigh at hand. Isaiah 53:9. (These two rich men showed the value they had for Christ’s Person and doctrine, and that it was not lessened by the reproach of the cross. The grave of Jesus was appointed with the wicked, as was the case of those who suffered as criminals, but He was with the rich in His Death, as prophesied, Isaiah 53:9. He was buried in a new sepulcher, therefore it could not be said that it was not He, but some other that rose. (Matthew Henry). During Christ’s life these two men apparently kept quiet about their convictions. Now, with Jesus dead, the threat of reprisal seemed remote. Still, to openly ask for the body required tremendous courage. Perhaps the miraculous events accompanying Christ’s death on the cross had changed them and given them the boldness to identify with Jesus (12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. Romans 5:18; Hebrews 2:9 ). (Quest SB).
More to come and God Bless You.
