“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/Jesus Prays For Himself And For His Disciples

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus

Service today was WONDERFUL!  Our Pastor shares The Word and teaches The Word so that everyone can understand it.  May God Bless him and his family.

And I thank God for His Church, which is all over the world.  The Church is not the building but the people, the “Body of Christ” that comes together to worship, to praise and to lift up the Wonderful Name of Jesus Christ!  Amen.

“Jesus Prays For Himself And For His Disciples” – John 17:1) These words spake Jesus, and lifted His Eyes to Heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; Glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son also may Glorify Thee;  2) As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him.  3) And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.  1Corinthians8:4.  4) I have glorified Thee on the earth:  I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do.  5) And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine Own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.  Colossians 1:15.  6)  I have manifested thy name unto the men which Thou gavest Me out of the world:  Thine they were, and Thou gavest them me: and they have kept Thy Word.  7) Now they have known that all things whatsoever Thou hast given Me are of Thee.  8) For I have given unto them the words which Thou gavest Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.  9) I pray for them:  I pray not for the world, but for them which Thou hast given me; for they are Thine.  1John 5:19.  10) And all Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine; and I am glorified in them.  Romans 8:30.  11) And now I Am no more in the world, but these are in the world and I come to thee.  Holy Father keep through Thine own name those Whom Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, as We are.  1Peter 1:5.   1Peter 1:5.  12) While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Thy name:  those that thou gavest Me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.  Hebrews 2:13; 1John 2:19.  13) An now come I to Thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have My Joy fulfilled in themselves.   14) I have given them Thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  1John3:13.  15) I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil.  Galatians 1:4.  16) They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world, 17) Sanctify them  through Thy Truth:  Thy Word is Truth.  18) As Thou hast sent Me in the world even so have I also sent them into the world.  19) And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

Quest Study Bible: vv1,5) Why did Jesus pray to be Glorified?  It wasn’t for His own benefit that Jesus asked to be glorified.  Rather, He wanted the Father glorified through the coming events of the cross.  His prayer was that the work of salvation would be completed.   vvv2,6,9) Why are so few given to the Son?  Salvation depends upon God’s initiative, not ours.  First, He sent His Son to fulfill His plan of Salvation.  He also stirs the human heart to conviction so a person can turn to God.  Why then doesn’t God stir more hearts to turn to Him?  The answer is known only to God who predestines certain ones for salvation (Ephesians 1:4-5).  Also God, who wants everyone to repent (2Peter 3:9), gives to Christ all who trust in Him.  vv5,24) Glory, As He finished His Work, Jesus prayed that the Father would restore Him to the eternal, majestic and exalted position that He once had.  And His prayer was that He would be glorified to confirm that He had completely fulfilled the will of the Father.  v9) Why didn’t Jesus pray for the world?  Since He would soon be leaving His followers, He chose here to focus on their needs.  He also prayed that believers would be united as one in Christ so that the world would believe Jesus was sent by the Father (vv21,23).   vv11-12) What power exists in the name of the Father?  In Bible times, a name stood for its owner’s essential character.  When the Father gave His name to the Son, He commissioned Him to act on His behalf and with His Authority and Power.  It is through that Authority and Power that Believers are protected from the evil schemes of Satan.  v12) Was the doom of Judas preordained?  Even though God in His Divine wisdom knew centuries before exactly what Judas would do (Psalm41:9)  God was not the author of those actions.  Judas made His own choices and was responsible for his own act of treachery.  Like all who reject Christ.   v17,19) Sanctify,  When Jesus prayed that Believers would be sanctified, He was praying that they would be set apart and made Righteous by the Word of God.  In one sense that has already happened:  Believers are made righteous the moment they place their faith in Christ.  In another sense, however, they enter a process of sanctification:  growing in obedience and holiness.  Amen.

More to come and God Bless You.
