“Jesus, A Miracle Worker”/The Jews Continue In Their Unbelief

A Christ Filled Life – Getting To Know Jesus
I found an old song by The Clark Sisters, “They Were Overcome By The Word”:  They were overcome by the Word, by the Blood of the Lamb, and the Word of their testimony,  They were overcome, they were healed of diseases, and they all believed, by the Word and the Blood of the Lamb.

“The Jews Continue In Their Unbelief”, John 12″37) But though He had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on Him.  38) That the saying of Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord who hath believed our report?  and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?   Isaiah 53:1; Romans 10:16.  39) Therefore, they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,  40) He hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.  Isaiah 6:9.    41) These things said Esaias, when he saw His Glory, and spake of Him.  Isaiah 6:1; Hebrews 11:13.   43) Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:  43) For they loved the praise of men more than the Praise of God.  Matthew 6:2; Romans 2:29.  44) Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me.  Matthew 10:40; Mark 9:37.  45) And He that seeth Me seeth Him that sent Me.  Hebrews 1:3.  46) I am come a Light into the world, that whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness.  John 3:19.  47) And if any man hear My Words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.  48) He that rejecteth Me, and receiveth not My Words, hath One that judgeth Him:  The Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.  Luke 10:16.  49) For I have not spoken of Myself, but the Father which sent Me, He gave a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.  John 8:38.  50) I know that His Commandment is life everlasting:  whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary – v37 they did not believe:  Their unbelief is startling.  However Jesus’ prediction of suffering and death did not fit the people’s idea of the Messiah.  v38 the saying of Isaiah…might be fulfilled:  Their unbelief was predicted in the Old Testament, Isaiah 53:1.  v39, 40  The loss of the capacity to believe because God had hardened their hearts.  Isaiah 6:10.  v41 John uses the words His Glory, to speak of the manifestation of God Himself.  John quotes Isaiah 6:9 (v40) as a prophecy of the people’s unbelief and rejection of Christ.  v42.43 chief rulers were genuine believers but they feared the opinions and actions of the unbelievers.   v44, 45 All who believe in Christ Jesus believe in God the Father.  v46-50 Christ did not come to execute judgment but to save . If we reject Him, we judge ourselves(3:17). More to come and God Bless You.
