A Christ Filled Life – Getting to Know Jesus
Why read the Bible? Reading all the Bible is a worthwhile endeavor because “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” and all Scripture is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Because all of God’s Word is God’s word to us, every book, every chapter has a message worth reading and understanding. Although we may never understand all of the mysteries of God’s Word, we must seek out the message. Holy Bible KJV (to be continued).
“The Claims of Jesus About Himself”, John 8:48) Then answered the Jews, and said unto Him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? 49) Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour Me. 50) And I seek not Mine own glory: there is one that seeketh to judgeth. 51) Verily, verily, (Truly, truly) I say unto you, If a man keep My saying, he shall never see death. 52) Then said the Jews unto Him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep My saying, he shall never taste of death. 53) Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? 54) Jesus answered, If I honour Myself, My honour is nothing: it is My Father that honoureth Me; of whom ye say, that He is your God: Acts 3:13. 55) Yet ye have not known Him; but I know Him: and if I should say, I know Him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know Him, and keep His saying. 56) Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he saw it, and was glad. Galatians 3:8, 16. 57) Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am. Exodus 3:13. 59) Then took they up stones to cast at Him: but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
Quest Study Bible – v51 Is it possible for anyone to keep Christ’s word? The phrase doesn’t refer to flawless performance, but to belief in Jesus as the Son of God. It is to accept as valid what Jesus has said about Himself. Jesus’ call to obey His Word is a call for people to follow, trust and seek Him, allowing His Word to dwell in them. The goal is to continually desire God; even if we experience temporary setbacks by not living in perfect obedience. v58, 59 Was Jesus claiming o be older than Abraham? The issue was not age, but the fact that Jesus existed prior to Abraham. If Jesus was simply referring to age, He would have said, “Before Abraham was, I was.” But for Him to say, ” Before Abraham was, I Am! was a statement of eternal self-existence. To the Jews it was reminiscent of God’s own Word concerning Himself, “I AM THAT I AM” Exodus 3:14. Jesus was clearly claiming deity, leading to the spontaneous desire to stone Him for blasphemy. According to Leviticus 24:16, the punishment for blasphemy (insulting God) was death.
